Approximately four times a year, St. Vincent's volunteers welcomeFamily Promise guests to our Parish Center. For the week these homeless families are with us, they eat at our table, play on our playground and sleep in our classrooms. They then move to another host group, leaving our volunteers with an experience more valuable than the meals they cooked or the hours they spent away from their own homes. Our parish's next week is August 21-28; volunteers are needed in the following roles.
Set Up & Take Down - Prepare rooms at the Parish Center for the families to stay in, including setting up rugs, lamps and air mattresses and making the beds. At the end, take down the rooms, including washing the sheets and towels.
Welcome Dinner - Volunteers prepare a meal and visit with the families, making them feel welcome and ensuring they are situated for the week ahead.
Nightly meals& activities - Volunteers take a turn to provide dinner and coordinate evening activites for the families, such as playground time for the kids or a movie night.
Overnight volunteers - Stay in the Parish Center with the guests overnight and set up an on-the-go breakfast on weekday mornings, or a sit-down meal on weekend mornings.
If you feel called to serve in any of these roles, or are interested in learning other ways you can support this ministry, please contact one of the coordinators:
