Short Stories by Jesus – Bible Study. Many of Jesus’ parables are very familiar such as the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan.
In this Bible Study based upon her book Short Stories by Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University, challenges us to see the parables as Jesus’ first century audience would have understood them.
This six-part series begins Wednesday, March 1st at 7PM via Zoom and continues through Wednesday, April 5th. The link will be sent out shortly before the first session.
Those interested should purchase only the Participant Guide for Short Stories by Jesus published by Abington Press (www.abingdonpress.com) not the entire book. The Guide is also widely available from other sources on the Internet. We will not be able to have the Guide stocked at the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza.
Each session begins with a short video by Professor Levine introducing the parable followed by discussion. Before the first session, please read the Introduction and Session 1 “Lost Sheep, Lost Coin, and Lost Son” in the Participant Guide (pages 5 to 34).
